22 tools for a Better 2022

The New Year is always a time for setting new goals or picking past rhythms back up!

What if in 2022 we choose new habits that help us do less and see God do more?  What if we stopped to be with God and then see what happens? Where could He lead us?  What could He show us?

Check out these 22 ways we can all start seeking dynamic life in Christ in new ways.  Maybe try one that you’ve never done before or try one again that you haven’t done in a long time.  We can’t wait to hear how He shows up!

1. Ruthlessly Eliminate of Hurry

“A compelling emotional and spiritual case against hurry and in favor of a slower, simpler way of life.”

The reality is, most of us are just too busy to live an emotionally healthy and spirituality vibrant life. Hurry is incompatible with the way of Jesus. The love, joy, and peace that form the nucleus of Jesus’ kingdom are all impossible in a life of speed. We must, as Dallas Willard said, “Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from our lives.”

2. Basics of Christian Faith

We are offering our 6-week Foundations class beginning in mid-February both online and in-person at our South Park Campus.  Foundations is especially designed for people who are starting or restarting their faith.  It’s also a good place people for who aren’t sure about following Christ and have some questions about what that even means in their lives. It is a place where you can learn the basics of Christian life and bring your questions about God, the Bible, Jesus and what it means to connect to dynamic life in Christ through prayer and engaging with Scripture. Interested?

3. Join a Bridge Group

Bridge Groups are small groups of people who meet regularly to grow in dynamic life in Christ. Together they study the Bible & pray, engage in community, and tell others about Jesus so they can know Him too. You can sign-up for New Bridge Groups on January 30th.  Interested in learning more?

4. Financial Coaching and Classes

We’re excited to offer Financial Classes and Coaching through Forest Hill Church. We have a group of volunteer financial coaches who are trained to work with people to understand their financial goals and help them to be great stewards of the resources God has given them. They can meet with you 1-on-1 or connect you to groups such as Financial Peace University to help you with budgeting, paying off debt, investing well and giving generously to bring dynamic life in Christ to others.

8. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality

“Peter Scazzero learned the hard way: you can’t be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. Even though he was the pastor of a growing church, he did what most people do–avoid conflict in the name of Christianity; ignore his anger, sadness, and fear; use God to run from God; and live without boundaries.” Using the Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Resources gives you an opportunity to explore the integration of emotional health, our ability to be self-aware, love others well and grow in our relationship to Christ. Start by purchasing the book HERE.

9.Sabbath

Sabbath is a crucial and beautiful practice that The Father invites us in to delight with Him weekly. We want to invite you in to learn this rhythm in 2022. Check out this podcast on Sabbath!

14. Bible Reading Plans:

Studies have shown that a regular habit of reading the Bible is the practice that can have the biggest impact on your life in Christ.  Engaging with Scripture intentionally several times a week, even for just 10 minutes, can help you hear from God, learn how to live like Jesus and find the hope and peace that you long for.  You Version has short, easy-to-use Bible Reading Plans to help you jumpstart this habit in the new Year.

15. Try Listening to Scripture.

We are called not just to read Scripture, but to meditate on it day and night (Psalm 1). But what does that mean and how do we do that?  One great way to is to not just read the Bible, but to listen to the words of Scripture and let them resonate in our thoughts and emotions.  The Check out this blog on getting started with scripture meditation  or download the Dwell App to start listening to Scripture as you go throughout your day.

16. Walk through a Book of the Bible with videos from The Bible Project or Right Now Media.

Are there books of the Bible that you wonder about?  Are there words that you hear Christians use like “grace” or “sin” or “righteousness” that you can’t figure out what they mean?  There are great videos out there to help!  Forest Hill provides free access to Right Now Media which has hundreds of videos on everything from the Bible to relationships to leading well at home and at work.

You can also check out The Bible Project for awesome videos on every book of the Bible and themes like faith, grace and sin.

17. Care and Counseling

We’re here for you. From time to time, we all need help. Friends in your Bridge Group and pastors at church can meet many pastoral needs, but sometimes you need intentional conversations over several weeks or months. Care & Counseling is here to help. 18. Connecting Creativity to your Faith

Connecting your creative side to your faith can be such a beautiful way to connect with Jesus this year. Check out this video on Visual Journaling!

19. Host a Community Night

One of the most tangible ways we can connect with God and others is practicing hospitality! Opening up your home to a movie night, game night or even to watch church online on Sunday Morning is an amazing way to build bridges, grow in relationship with others and see God show up and work in unexpected ways.

20. Dreaming

The beginning of a New Year always sparks that excitement to dream or set goals. What if you started your year by dreaming with God of what you and He can accomplish this year? Start with this journaling prompt…. “Father, where can I make room for you to move in my life in 2022?” Or download this resource from Jennie Allen and IF:Gathering to take inventory and dream about every aspect of your life.

21. Be Honest with Your Emotions

One of the healthiest things you can do for yourself is get real with how you feel. Whether it’s sadness, guilt, shame or anger, identifying the emotion and being honest with God will bring you so close to Him. In January we’re starting a series called “You Good” tapping into some real life stuff that goes down in the world and as humans. Check out the series or any of our past Forest Hill weekly messages  on YouTube. Try listening to them on a walk or in while driving around town and see how God might speak to you in the midst of your everyday life and not just on Sunday mornings.

22. Put your Prayers on Paper

Maybe it’s time for an actual physical change with new and fresh paper! Often writing your prayers can help you focus and experience God in new ways.  Grabbing a new journal that’s perfect just for you and some cool pens could kick off the new year just right! Check out out this affordable journal in many colors on Amazon!
