MARITAL COUNSELING

HEALING, RESTORATION, AND HOPE.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN MARRIAGE COUNSELING

Relationships go through many ups and downs with time. Couples/Marital therapy is a way that Care & Counseling seeks to come alongside couples to support them through those hard seasons. As you consider if this is something you and your partner need, here are some things to consider. In couples/marital therapy the relationship itself is the client. The counselor holds a non-biased stance, not siding with either partner, but seeking the health of the relationship. Our counselors use several different therapeutic modalities to support couples including Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman approach. The hope is to help you better understand each other, facilitate difficult conversations more effectively and ultimately have a stronger emotional connection.

We begin the process for couples seeking counseling with an assessment appointment. Initial appointments serve as a time to determine the couple’s needs and collectively agree on the next best steps for care. Based on this assessment, the counselor may continue with the couple as clients, refer the couple to another counselor within our offices, or refer you to a trusted local Christian counselor to continue your care. The intent is always to pair the couple with the clinician who would be most equipped and trained to provide the best care. Assessments last 50 minutes to an hour. Once placed with a counselor, your counselor may want to schedule individual sessions with each spouse
